Ambassador Goel and the East African Regional Office in Uganda have visited the Republic of South Sudan to finalize the collaboration agreement after more than a year preparation.
The National Chairperson of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RCC) Hon. Gatwech Peter Kulang signing the treaty on behalf of South Sudan. Amb. Rajiv Goel , Head Director Council of Foreign Affairs is representing President Pat Meyer and is signing the treaty on behalf of UnASDG-IGO.
South Sudan, a member of the East African Community (EAC), has signed a host country agreement (TREATY) with the United Alliance for Sustainable Development Goals (UnASDG-IGO) to start the cooperation that will provide the country with support in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The UnASDG IGO, represented by the Head Director Council of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Rajiv Goel, and the Government of Southern Sudan, represented by the Chairman of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, Hon. Gatwech Peter Kulang, signed a Country Host Agreement (TREATY) that paves the way for cooperation. Ambassador Mukesh Kumar, Regional Representative for East Africa, Patrick K. Mutabwire, Deputy Regional Representative, and X. Dimitri, Team Leader for South Sudan, were present at the signing of the contract at the headquarters of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in Juba.
The two delegations had an extensive discussion on ways to work together to support South Sudan's efforts to improve the well-being of its people and achieve sustainable development.
UnASDG’s Executive President Senator Patrick Meyer stated in his message earlier this year that the Strategic Vision for Africa of the sovereign intergovernmental organization UnASDG, published on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Promoting Sustainable Development through Security, Innovation and Global Cooperation, states the following:
“At the heart of UnASDG's strategy is the belief that sustainable development cannot be achieved without addressing the root causes of instability and poverty. Africa, as a mineral-rich continent, has the potential to lead in technological development. However, this potential can only be fully realized through coordinated efforts in security reform, technological advancement, and the creation of robust infrastructure.
He also noted that “UnASDG IGO encourages foreign investment, recognizing its importance in building resilient economies. While supporting investment and development across all strategic goals, including clean water and sanitation, good health and well-being, affordable and clean energy, infrastructure and sustainable cities and communities, UnASDG places a strong emphasis on promoting investment in advanced technology development. This includes areas such as cybersecurity, blockchain technology, and digital infrastructure. By protecting assets, ensuring transparency, and fostering a business environment that attracts global capital, African nations can secure job creation and sustainable growth.”
South Sudan is leading the way in realizing this vision, which will enable the parties to embark on projects that will transform the lives of the people of South Sudan. In due course, the two parties will soon jointly develop a specific project agenda for South Sudan, as well as the necessary steps for a secured and sustainable financing process with UnASDG’s affiliated monetary authority “USD Mint”, in order to get off to a quick start.
We pay our deepest appreciation to the National Chairman of the Relief and Recovery Commission (RRC), Hon. Gatwech Peter Kulang, who has been instrumental in the implementation and recognition of the UnASDG by the Government of South Sudan, and we look forward to deepening and strengthening this cooperation.
